General Troubleshooting Back to Top

Restart your iPhone.

Often a simple restart of your iPhone can solve any problems you're experiencing. Try this first.

Quit and relaunch the application.

  1. From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
  2. Tap and hold on the app.
  3. When it starts to jiggle, tap theClose icon to close it.
  4. Double-click the Home button and try opening the app again.

Redownload and Reinstall the Application.

If quitting and relaunching the application doesn’t fix the problem, nor does restarting your iPhone, you maybe want to try re-downloading the application. Install Checkmark from scratch and see if the problem persists. Be aware that removing the application from your iPhone will delete all application data for good, so you may want to take note (write down or screenshots) any existing data you have in Checkmark so that you can quickly re-enter it after re-installing.

Checkmark: FAQ Back to Top

  • Does Checkmark work with Siri?

No, but we’re working on something ;)

  • Does Checkmark sync with Reminders?

Also no. But we’re working on something ;)

  • Do location-based reminders work on all iPhone models?

To take advantage of Checkmark's location-based reminders feature you'll need to be using an iPhone 4 or 4S. Due to hardware limitations the iPhone 3GS and older are not capable of setting location-based reminders (this is the same in Apple's Reminders app).

  • Is Checkmark available in my language?

At this time Checkmark is only available in English, however feel free to tell us about a language you’d like to see it in.

  • Does Checkmark drain my iPhone’s battery?

You may notice your iPhone battery draining slightly quicker when location services are being used (see the next question).

  • How does Checkmark affect battery life?

When you have a location-based reminder set that hasn’t been marked as “done”, Checkmark will use location services to monitor that task so that it can alert you when you arrive or depart from a location. When you have no location-based reminders Checkmark automatically turns off location services, conserving battery life.

  • Are location-based reminders accurate everywhere?

Checkmark’s accuracy can vary as it’s based on a combination of cell tower strength and triangulation, along with the iPhone GPS. So for example, if you’re using the application in densely populated areas (cities) the accuracy will be higher than if using in sparse areas (countryside). This accuracy is no different than the accuracy found in Apple’s own Reminders app, as it uses the same technology to triangulate your position. You can try adjusting the accuracy setting in Checkmark (see next question) if you’re having trouble, but apart from that the accuracy doesn’t depend on our code but rather your signal strength.

  • Can I increase the accuracy of Checkmark’s location-based reminders?

By default Checkmark’s accuracy setting is set to “Normal” to help conserve battery life. You can change the accuracy to "Best" to ensure the highest precision for location- based alerts, however you may notice slightly diminished battery life. To change the accuracy setting visit your iPhone Settings and choose Checkmark > Accuracy. Changes will take effect next time you launch Checkmark.

  • I can’t find a location using the “Add from map” feature. How can I add the location I’m looking for?

Checkmark uses the “Google Places API" to allow you to add locations from a map. Occasionally you may not be able to find a particular location you’re looking for. If you can’t find the location you’re looking for using the “Add from map” feature, try browsing for the location in the Google Maps app that comes with iOS. Once you’ve found the location there, choose “Add to Contacts” in the Maps app. You’ll now be able to add this location in Checkmark using the “Import location from contacts” feature.

  • Does Checkmark support recurring reminders?

UPDATE: Yes, since the 1.1 update, Checkmark supports recurring time-based reminders. With location-based reminders, the alert will continue to trigger when you arrive or depart from a location that has a task that hasn't been marked as "done".

  • Can I increase the sound of the reminder alert?

You can adjust your iPhone's volume level to ensure it's set to the loudest setting. Currently it isn't possible to change the actual reminder sound, however we have plans to add more sound options in the future.
